Labs bring together small groups for an exclusive, first-hand look into what happens behind the scenes at some of the most innovative companies, community leaders and institutions around Chicago.
Custom-made bikes and fresh-brewed coffee may be an unlikely pairing, but they’re the keys to Heritage Bicycle’s unique success. The company opened a second location in Uptown’s FLATS Studios on Wilson Avenue earlier this year, where they’ve expanded their bike shop while bringing gourmet coffee to the neighborhood. At this Lab, Owner Michael Salvatore will discuss his hybrid business model, which generated more than $1 million in sales in 2014, before inviting you to get a first-hand look at each of the business’s two components. You’ll sample coffee, learn about how the bikes are built and design a custom bike on the company’s newest prototype, a bike-building app.
