CONVERSATION - Conversations are panel discussions that provide an in-depth, up-to-the-minute look at a single topic. Featuring three to four thought leaders and an expert moderator, Conversations consist of a 60-minute discussion, followed by 15 minutes of audience q-and-a.

Nearly half of those released from prison in Illinois each year return within three years. The state commits well over $1 billion to its Department of Corrections annually. Meanwhile, neighborhoods across Chicago are reeling with the cycle brought on by the current criminal justice system. It’s become clear that Chicago—and the country in general—needs to fundamentally rethink the way in which its courts and jails operate.

Taking cues from other programs across the globe, one court in the city is taking a new approach to law and order. The North Lawndale Restorative Justice Community Court launched last year as the first in the state to focus on rehabilitative measures. At this essential Conversation, we’ll sit down local and national stakeholders to talk about the future of the criminal justice system in America at large.
