Conversations are panel discussions that provide an in-depth, up-to-the-minute look at a single topic. Featuring three to four thought leaders and an expert moderator, Conversations consist of a 60-minute discussion, followed by 15 minutes of audience q-and-a.

Social networks—and the way we use them—are evolving at such a rapid rate, even tech’s top platforms have to fight to keep up. There have been questions about what is being built; concerns about misuse of platforms by foreign governments; debates about whether social media is harmful to people’s well-being; and meanwhile, companies like Youtube, Snapchat, Google and Facebook have become integral parts in just about everyone’s lives.

If you’re a leader or even one of the thousands of employees at these companies, how do you ensure that technology is built and deployed in service of humanity and not the other way around? How can we look to history for past examples of disruptive technologies to help us best design for the most diverse global community in the world? How can the tech industry learn from past mistakes and apply those learnings to future technologies?

With more than 4 billion people estimated to be on the Internet, and more than 2 billion of those being on Facebook, we’re sitting down with Facebook to address the broader industry discussion around ethics and understanding what it means to design at scale: Facebook VP of Product Design, Margaret Stewart, who has led design teams for Facebook, Google, and Youtube, and Facebook Research Manager, Sudhir Venkatesh, who works with the company’s Community Integrity Research Team. Join us for a thought-provoking evening that sheds light on how Facebook approaches these issues when navigating modern tech ethics.
