For formerly incarcerated Americans, reintegrating into society is filled with challenges. Sanctions in many states prevent convicted felons from being eligible for public housing, food stamps and student loans. But perhaps the most constrictive barrier for offenders reentering society is finding employment, despite studies that show formerly incarcerated people tend to possess skills that are desirable and in demand. At this Chicago Ideas roundtable event, we’ll sit down with employers, agencies and people who have spent time behind bars to discuss how to reduce challenges and create more opportunities for formerly incarcerated persons in the workplace. Whether you’re an entry level employee or a CEO, this event aims to get rid of the stigma you might have around hiring formerly incarcerated candidates.
