Lab: How to Tackle Food Deserts in Chicago

    Tuesday, Oct 15, 2019 2:00 - 4:30 PM @ Gardeneers Homan Rail Farm
This event is over! Please check the 2019 schedule.
LAB - Labs bring together small groups for an exclusive, first-hand look into what happens behind the scenes at some of the most innovative companies, community leaders and institutions around Chicago.

Get the bird’s eye view on food inequity in Chicago at this interactive experience with the Gardeneers. After a tour of the Homan Rail Farm, we’ll help prepare the land for winter alongside the Gardeneers youth, planting winter crops that will be used in local school cafeterias. Then, we’ll go up in Nichol’s Tower—the original “Sears Tower”—to get a sense of the terrain of North Lawndale and its historic sites. At the end, we’ll engage with the Gardeneers founders to talk about Chicago’s vast networks of food insecurity and learn about literal grassroots efforts to eradicate them across the city.

This event has limited ADA accessibility. Dress for the weather in clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and wear closed toes shoes. Bring a reusable bottle for water.
