Tour Millennium Park with Richard M. Daley

The attendees for this lab will visit all of the major enhancements including some areas that are generally off limits to the public. The process of creating the park will be explained and the following topics will be addressed.

*How a public/private partnership was established and how the responsibility and mechanism for funding and constructing the park were divided between the City and the Donors.
*How the designers of Millennium Park were selected and how the master plan combined the traditional and contemporary vision of multiple artists, architects and landscape designers within a landscape framework that is universally accessible.
*How the art, architecture and landscapes of Millennium Park were constructed on a restricted site, over active railroad tracks, with multiple general and sub contractors and design teams. The enhancements to be visited and explained include Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor, The Crown Fountain by Jaume Plensa, the Pritzker Pavilion and BP Bridge by Frank Gehry, the Lurie Garden by Kathryn Gustafson and Piet Oudolf and the Nichols Bridgeway by Renzo Piano
*How Millennium Park is programmed and maintained with its unique requirements. Endowments, sponsorships, rental revenues and city wide bus shelter advertising fees all combine to support the programming and preservation of the park.
*What the impact of the park has been on residential real estate property values and tourism and its appeal as a place to live and work.
