An Elective is an intimate masterclass that dives into a single subject led by an expert in that field. Featuring one or two instructors, an Elective consists of a 60-90 minute lesson—complete with reading lists and breakout groups in unique spaces or classroom-like settings.

The identities that bind us together often transcend the physical borders that separate us, and as a result, social movements—from ISIS to #MeToo—quickly become global crusades for change. How are these energies harnessed and channeled into movements that are changing the cultural landscape globally? What tactics do their leaders employ, and what can these strategies teach us about the connections between people that transcend nationality, language and gender?

    Who is this Elective for?

Anyone who is intrigued by the power and viability of global political movements, organizers who are trying to bring their movements to greater prominence, marketers charged with creating brand affinity across demographic or national lines.

    What will you learn?

In an Elective, taught by The Soufan Center Executive Director Meredith Stricker, you will explore the structures of these connections beyond borders and the concrete strategies that have brought global fervor and a platform to various political and social movements.

    How should you prepare?

We’ll send you a few reading materials and/or a syllabus after you register. These are designed to give you a foundation before attendance in order to maximize your learnings.
