    Tools for Turnout

Thursday, Oct 18, 2018 2:00 - 3:45 PM @ Loyola University Museum of Art (LUMA)

Labs bring together small groups for an exclusive, first-hand look into what happens behind the scenes at some of the most innovative companies, community leaders and institutions around Chicago.

Fewer than 50 percent of registered voters turned out for the last midterm elections; the numbers for local elections are even lower. State Matters is working to change that by taking the fear out of voting and weaponizing peer pressure to get our state more civically engaged. Find out how to increase voter turnout in your community at this Lab at the Loyola University Museum of Art that also takes a closer look at how segregation affects the city and why local elections matter. Explore artist Tonika Lewis Johnson’s Folded Map exhibit and learn how Chicago's grid plan, redlining, and segregation are directly related to taking action in your community. Then find your “twin address” on your street on the opposite side of the grid using their interactive map. Learn more about State Matters’ work, get a digital toolkit for the upcoming midterms, and find out how to host your own Ballot Party to help increase turnout for state and local elections.
