"Portals" is a public global arts initiative created by Shared Studios aimed at connecting the world through meaningful one-on-one conversations. Chicago Ideas Week and ComcastNBCUniversal have partnered to bring "Portals" to Chicago, open seven days a week in Daley Plaza. The Portal is a gold shipping container outfitted with livestreaming full-body audio-visiual technology. Portals are stationed in cities all around the world, from Kigali, Rwanda and Erbil, Iraq; to Yangon, Myanmar and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
When you step into a portal, you'll come face-to-face with someone in an identical portal on the other side of the world. Chicago Ideas has curated a full week of programming with partner cities all over the globe. These programs will be broadcast live on a screen outside the Portal. We encourage you to stop by Daley Plaza and experience these groundbreaking events.
We've also arranged for Open Hours, so you'll have the chance to engage in a conversation with someone in another portal. To reserve a spot for Open Hours, click here, or visit a specific Portal Connection's Event Page from the Attend page main schedule. Each Portal Connection time slot is reserved for three guests to encourage you to have a meaningful conversation during your Portal Connection.
