In 1991, Deborah Sawyer founded EDI ? a professional services firm providing civil and environmental engineering and related services. She began her career as an Environmental Scientist for the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Later, she joined a private engineering firm where she rose up the ranks to senior vice president before becoming an entrepreneur. EDI has grown from just a handful of employees to nearly 70, and counts such high-profile projects as Exelon City Solar in its portfolio. Ms. Sawyer also works to develop the interests of young women in science and engineering, and has taught high school students at the Young Women's Leadership Charter School in Chicago, where she is President of the school's Board of Directors.
