    David Gallo

David Gallo, Ph.D., has more than 40 years’ experience working at the forefront of ocean exploration and understanding. He has participated in expeditions to all of the world’s oceans, including co-leading expeditions to locate the wreckage of Air France flight 447 and to create the first detailed and comprehensive map of the RMS Titanic. He was previously the Director of Special Projects at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for more than 25 years, where he was one of the first scientists to use a combination of robots and submarines to explore the deep seafloor. He also served as the senior advisor for strategic initiatives at the Center for Climate & Life at the Earth Institute of the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University. He has been a member of James Cameron’s Deep Ocean Task Force and sits on the XPrize Ocean Advisory Board.

An in-demand speaker with one of the most-viewed TedTalks of all time, Gallo is dedicated to sharing the excitement of exploration and discovery with students, teachers and the public at large. Today, Gallo continues his interest in the mysteries of the deep but with a greater focus on understanding human origins, evolution and destiny.
