    Nicholas Percoco

    Chief Information Security Officer, Uptake & Founder, Thotcon

    Nicholas Percoco is an information security expert with more than 20 years’ experience. Currently, he’s the Chief Information Security Officer at Uptake, a leading analytics company. He’s also the founder of Thotcon, an annual non-profit hacking conference with more than 1,200 attendees each year. Previously, Percoco was the Vice President of Global Services at Rapid7, a director at KPMG, and the head of SpiderLabs at Trustwave, where he led more than 2,000 incident responses and forensic investigations globally, ran thousands of ethical hacking and application security tests for clients, and conducted bleeding-edge security research to improve Trustwave's products. Prior to Trustwave, Percoco ran security consulting practices at VeriSign and Internet Security Systems. In 2004, he drafted an application security framework that became known as the Payment Application Best Practices (PABP). In 2008, this framework was adopted as a global standard called Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS).

    As a speaker, Percoco has provided unique insight to the topics of security breaches, malware, mobile security and InfoSec trends to both public and private audiences, including Black Hat, DEFCON, the Department of Homeland Security, Interpol, and the Secret Service. He and his research have been featured by numerous outlets including the Washington Post, eWeek, PC World, CNET, Wired, USA Today, Forbes, CNN, NPR, Gizmodo, Fast Company and the Wall Street Journal. The Illinois State University College of Applied Science & Technology inducted Percoco into its Academy of Achievement during its inaugural year.
