    Nick Cowan

    Planetary Scientist, Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics, Northwestern University

    Nick Cowan grew up in Montreal, Canada, and studied physics at McGill University, graduating with a BSc in 2004. After working for a year on a gamma-ray detector at the University of British Columbia, he moved down the coast to Seattle for graduate studies. Nick earned his PhD in astronomy from the University of Washington in 2009. His thesis developed the theory and practice of "exo-cartography," mapping the surfaces and atmospheres of distant worlds. Dr Cowan came to Northwestern in 2010 as a CIERA postdoctoral fellow to pursue his research on the climate of extrasolar planets.
