    Ramona Pierson

    CEO, Declara

Long before she co-founded Declara, a company building personalized learning technology, Ramona Pierson was in a horrific accident that put her in a coma for 18 months and left her blind for 11 years. She had to relearn everything, from breathing to smiling, which inspired her drive to build companies centered on personalized learning. Pierson’s career began as a neuroscientist at the Palo Alto Brain Center and VA hospitals. In 2005, she created The Source, an early online social learning solution adopted throughout Seattle Public Schools. She later founded SynapticMash, which developed educational solutions, selling the startup for $10 million.
