    Tanner Colby is the author of Some of My Best Friends Are Black: The Strange Story of Integration in America, a narrative history of the post–civil rights era, which was nominated for the American Library Association’s 2013 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Non-fiction. He is also a frequent contributor to Slate and the co-host of “Our National Conversation About Conversations About Race,” a podcast on issues of race, culture and politics.
