Xiuhtezcatl Martinez

Xiuhtezcatl Martinez is a 16-year-old indigenous climate activist, hip-hop artist and powerful voice on the front lines of a global youth-led environmental movement. Traveling around the world, educating and inspiring his generation since he was six years old, Martinez’s work has been featured on PBS, HBO, Showtime, CNN and MSNBC, and in National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Upworthy, The Guardian, Vogue and many more. He’s spoken at the Rio+20 United Nations Summit in Rio de Janeiro and addressed the General Assembly at the United Nations in New York. He’s currently the Youth Director of Earth Guardians, a global organization of young activists, artists and musicians who are working together to address environmental and other issues in their communities. His movement has grown to more than 2,000 youth-led Earth Guardian crews that are stepping up as leaders to combat climate change. His book We Rise: The Earth Guardians Guide to Building a Movement that Restores the Planet is being released by Rodale on September 5.
