Tennis Coach Kamau Murray on the Solution for Success

In this interview with Chicago Ideas founder Brad Keywell, Tennis Coach and Founder of the XS Tennis and Education Foundation Kamau Murray explores his relationship with tennis as a child, his journey to becoming the coach he is today and how to “stay in the solution.” In addition to going into detail about what it was like to coach Sloane Stephens to her historic US Open title, he discusses his Chicago after-school program, in which he teaches children from underserved neighborhoods how to play scholarship-winning tennis.

Join us a Edison Talks this year, where we’ll explore our theme, the Uncharted, with more than a dozen speakers and performers who are pushing boundaries in their fields.

Exploring the uncharted not only requires courage, empathy and perseverance. It must also be fueled by curiosity, diligence and discipline.

It is looking upward and outward to imagine dimensions not yet within our consciousness. It is letting go of expectation and opening yourself to endless possibility. It is often riddled with inefficiency, experimentation and failure, but if you postpone judgment and embrace the unknown, the rewards include fresh perspectives, breakthroughs, insights and serendipitous encounters. It is discovery. When we choose mapping over tracing, we begin to realize that endpoints do not exist. It’s simply the ends of the known.

We hope to see you there!
