The Meaning of Manhood and the Evolution of Black Masculinity
In celebration of Black History Month and hosted at the historic Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago Ideas is thrilled to present a program discussing the current state and future of African-American men.
In the ever-changing landscape for the Black man, the road is increasingly complex. In fact, it will take on average 228 years to accumulate the level of wealth their white counterparts hold today. How can we remove the barriers to level the playing field? Is it possible to embrace the idea of manhood from the past and continue to evolve? How do we better love the Black men who are being asked to strip down and rewrite the meaning of masculinity, and in what ways do the men in our communities need to step up, reach out, and stay accountable? These questions and more will be explored during a lively, informative, no-holds-barred evening hosted in partnership with the F.E.E.D. Foundation.
The program will open at 6pm with a performance by the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church Choir; speakers will take the stage at 6:30pm.
