The New Normal—Be Our Guest: Reviving Tourism in Chicago
By the end of 2019, Chicago was the second most visited city in the United States, with some 55 million visitors annually. This contributed to more than 153,000 jobs and one of the most diversified economies in the nation. But that was before the coronavirus pandemic upending the whole world.
With trade shows cancelled and world-renowned summer festivals called off, the flow of international travelers will be less robust in the Windy City this year. This conversation unites experts in Chicago’s tourism and hospitality industries to examine how COVID-19 will impact the stream of visitors into the city. As projections have fewer visitors coming than at any point in decades, we’ll explore how leaders are preparing a strategy to weather the storm while enticing tourists by centering Chicago as a safe and exciting place to visit during a global pandemic.
